You are free to make you character however you wish. But we ask that they fall into one of these categories so you can establish your role within the asylum. Below is a list of status's with a descriptions.
Hospital Staff:
Doctors and Nurses: The title pretty much speaks for itself. Doctors are in charge of assessing patients, giving them medical check ups and conducting tests etc. Nurses are in charge of distributing pills and keeping a check on general patient welfare. Of course not all doctors or nurses will be as straight laced or decent as others. These people have a detailed knowledge of different types of conditions and behaviors. Each doctor (and only doctors) will receive their own office which can be found as a subboard in the offices as soon as they are accepted into Tristesse.
Interns: These are trainee doctors and nurses, perhaps new to the asylum. They are still learning as they go along. They are perhaps a little more naive to the ways of the asylum and it's patients. It is encouraged for all the interns to stick together, but to try and get to understand the patients a little better where you can.
Security: These are the people to call if anything gets out of hand. They are able to use brute force if needed, sometimes excessively if (or not) required. They patrol the corridors keeping an eye out for trouble. They are responsible for looking after the asylum's staff, locking all doors at night to every patients room and monitoring who they let in and out of the building. Security carry tazers, pepper spray and batons and are permitted to use brute force if required.
Asylum Staff: These are the rest of the staff that don't fit into a category. These are the people who are most likely to do shift work. Cleaners, receptionists, works experience, lecturers, health or welfare inspectors. If you can think of anything else you would like to be that you think falls under this category, just put it in your application.
Patients:
Low risk: These are the patients that fall into the category of being more of a threat to themselves than others. They include cutters, suicidals, eating disorders, OCD's, ADHD's, mild bi-polar, depressives, alcohol and drug dependents etc. Staff pay more attention to this category of patients because they are easier to treat. These patients have full use of the asylum and it's facilities. Patients are permitted to wear their own clothes.
Medium risk: These patients can show signs of violence. In a way they are more unpredictable than the high risk patients because you aren't sure what mood you will catch them in. This category is reserved for those with personality disorders, manic depressives, Schizophrenics, those with dementia or extreme paranoia. These patients have limited use of the facilities and are always monitored at lunch and break times unless stated otherwise. Patients are permitted to wear their own clothes if they are deemed suitable.
High risk: These patients are considered the most dangerous in the asylum, they consist of murderers, rapists, pedophiles, arsonists etc. They haven't been sent to a normal prison because they have been deemed mentally unstable for whatever reason. These could have a number of underlying or perhaps even hidden conditions. Their breaks and lunches are heavily monitored by a security member of staff. They have limited hours of daylight and use of the facilities. Patients have to remain in asylum uniform at all time so staff and other patients are able to know their risk. Uniform is plain loose cotton clothing in a number of neutral colors, black, white, grey, beige and navy. Button up shirt and pull on trousers, very much like PJ's. High risk patients may not have shoes.
Other:
Visitors: These are people that don't work at the asylum or belong inside the asylum. They are more than likely going to be friends or family of patients and staff, but their visitation rights are not limited to any one person, as long as they have the authorization from security that the person they are trying to visit is available. Visitors are only allowed to socialize with one patient at a time and it must be within the visitation room unless granted otherwise. As far as visitation hours go, each risk level has different visiting hours. The low risks are from 8am to 4pm, medium risks from 9am to 2pm, and high risks from 11am to 2pm. All the patients are informed in advance that they cannot socialize with any of the other patients outside of their risk level otherwise they will have restricted visitation hours (if any), and all patients are strip searched before and after they leave the room and head back to their cells.
